Forces

Forces is a basic physics tutorial about the four physical forces of nature. It won an Honorable Mention in the 1997 Computers in Physics Educational Software Contest. It has been peer-reviewed and became available for purchase in summer, 1998, by Physics Academic Software.

Forces contains five sections:

  1. Fundamental Quantities -- including pages on length, time, velocity, acceleration, mass (both inertial and gravitational), momentum, and force (Newton's Laws of Mation).
  2. History & Tour of Forces -- the four fundamental forces, and short biographies of Newton, Cavendish and Coulomb.
  3. Forces and Motion -- including momentum and energy conservation, kinetic and potential energy, work, motion in a uniform force field, the gravitational force law, and circular motion in a central force field (centripetal acceleration).
  4. Electrostatic Forces -- covering Coulomb Force Law, electric field, conductors, electrostatic potential, and an example of beam deflecting parallel plates.
  5. Electromagnetic Forces -- includes pages on the magnetic force on a moving charged particle, the Lorentz force law, how currents give rise to magnetic fields, and magnets. also includes discussion of circular motion in a uniform magnetic field and the motion of a charged particle through a bending magnet.
